The Mission of IGS Foundation is to support the mission of the IGS “To provide an understanding and promote the appropriate use of geosynthetic technology throughout the world.”

The International Geosynthetics Society  has endorsed and identified several of the United Nations Sustainability Goals where geosynthetics currently make an impact and are well positioned to serve as an important tool for current and future improvements.  Geosynthetics are used in infrastructure construction: roads, railways, bridges, canals, reservoirs, landfills and waste storage sites, buildings, mines, shoreline and erosion protection and many other applications.

Geosynthetics reduce the need for more traditional, high resource consuming materials such as sand, gravel, concrete, soils and others.  Geosynthetics use less overall energy, reduce CO2 emissions, reduce maintenance needs and add durability and lifespan.

The IGS promotes the appropriate use of geosynthetics worldwide through IGS members, national chapters, seminars and educational efforts, conferences and technical knowledge development and dissemination.

Historically, the IGS’s financial resources have been generated by member and corporate member dues.  The Foundation is an effort to expand these resources with donations and grants and use these funds to promote geosynthetic education, usage and positive contributions to creating a sustainable planet.
